How to Wash Silk

Always read the garment care label first. Some silk pieces are dry clean only and should not be placed in water.

For washable silk:

Use cool water and a small amount of detergent.
Hand wash delicate pieces when possible.
Gently move the fabric through the water. Do not scrub, twist, or wring.
Rinse thoroughly with cool water.
Press out moisture gently with a clean towel.
Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight and heat.

When machine washing is allowed, use cold water, a delicate cycle, and a mesh wash bag.

Spot test dyed, embellished, vintage, or particularly valuable pieces before washing the entire item.
