What is dimethyl 9-decenamide

Dimethyl 9-decenamide is manufactured using Nobel prize-winning metathesis technology. It is a “unique unsaturated di-substituted amide derived from renewable sourcing from a bio-based feedstock”. It has low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) content, exhibits rapid, soil-penetrating kinetics, heat and hydrolytic stable, and has excellent solvency.

Why do we use dimethyl 9-decenamide

This chemical is a surfactant that helps clean and pull grease and soil out of clothing. In 28 days it has 63.93% biodegradation which makes it readily biodegradable.  Dimethyl 9-decenamide is soluble in a wide range of solutions— which makes it easy to work with when designing products.

Is dimethyl 9-decenamide safe to use? Is it nontoxic?

Yes, dimethyl 9-decenamide is safe to use.  We currently use a fractional amount of this ingredient in our laundry detergent to help pull grease and soil from garments.  Undiluted, fully concentrated dimethyl 9-decenamide is considered moderately toxic to fish, fish food, and algae. In mammals, it is slightly toxic if ingested, and a moderate eye and skin irritant. Those results occurred by directly applying dimethyl 9-decenamide. In producing our products, a small amount of dimethyl 9-decenamide is diluted in water. Then it is diluted again in wash water during the product’s use. The percent leaving as wastewater is very, very low.

In Summary

Rustic Strength uses dimethyl 9-decenamide to help clean and pull grease and soil out of garments.  It is readily biodegradable and used worldwide as a cleaner and degreaser.  It is moderately toxic in high, direct application doses.
