Why Gentle Natural Liquid Hand Soap Matters
Hand soap is one of the most-used products in the home. It sits by the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink, the guest sink, the laundry room sink and somehow, it always needs refilling sooner than expected.
Because it is used so often, the formula matters.
A good liquid hand soap should clean well without leaving hands feeling dry, tight, sticky, or coated in heavy fragrance. It should rinse clean, feel comfortable with frequent washing, and be made with ingredients you can actually understand.
Rustic Strength hand soap is made for everyday sinks and everyday hands. The ones that cook dinner, wash little faces, clean up messes, fold laundry, garden, work, care, comfort, and do it all again tomorrow.
Our formula is made with plant-based ingredients, ingredient transparency, and a gentler feel for frequent handwashing.
Non-toxic Hand Soap You Can Check
You wash your hands a dozen times a day, so we tested for the one thing a hand soap label can’t tell you. 1,4-dioxane is a byproduct that can form while some foaming ingredients are manufactured. It’s never listed as an ingredient, and in 2024 the EPA determined it poses an unreasonable risk to human health. Intertek Allentown, an independent lab, tested our hand soap base that every scent shares. Result: none detected, tested down to 1 ppm. See the full report.
The ingredients are on the label: high-purity water (charcoal-filtered, reverse osmosis, UV-sanitized), cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, cocamidopropyl betaine, coco-glucoside, vegetable glycerin, sodium citrate, caprylyl glycol, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl capryl glucoside, sodium gluconate, polysorbate 20 and citric acid. It’s made in small batches at our family-run facility in Missouri.

FAQs About Liquid Hand Soap
What makes a hand soap non-toxic?
A label word can’t, but a lab report and an ingredient list can show you what’s in the bottle. Rustic Strength's hand soap lists ingredients, and an independent lab found no detectable 1,4-dioxane, tested down to 1 ppm.
What is liquid hand soap?
Liquid hand soap is a handwashing soap that dispenses as a liquid instead of a bar. It is commonly used at kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, guest sinks, laundry rooms, and shared spaces where people wash their hands often.
Is liquid hand soap the same as foam hand soap?
Not exactly. Foam hand soap is usually a thinner liquid hand soap made to work with a foaming pump dispenser. The pump mixes the liquid with air to create foam as it dispenses. Traditional liquid hand soap usually comes out as a gel or liquid from a standard pump.
What is the best gentle hand soap?
The best gentle hand soap cleans well without leaving hands feeling stripped, dry, or coated. Look for a formula made without dyes, parabens, phthalates, harsh irritants, or mystery fragrance.
Rustic Strength uses plant-based ingredients and full ingredient transparency for a simpler everyday wash.
What hand soap is best for sensitive skin?
A hand soap for sensitive skin should be gentle, transparent, and made without harsh irritants, dyes, parabens, phthalates, or mystery fragrance. Choose a formula that cleans well and rinses clean without leaving hands feeling dry or tight.
Is hypoallergenic hand soap good for frequent washing?
Hypoallergenic hand soap can be a good option for frequent washing because it is made to avoid many common irritants. That can be helpful for busy homes where hands are washed many times a day.
Is refillable hand wash better?
Yes. Refillable hand wash is a better choice for reducing repeat plastic waste because you keep the same bottle in use longer instead of replacing it again and again. In a busy home, that one simple swap can make a real difference over time.
Can I use liquid hand soap in the kitchen and bathroom?
Yes. Liquid hand soap works well in kitchens, bathrooms, guest sinks, laundry rooms, and anywhere your family washes hands often.
